We have noticed that the air conditioner compressor on our 2005 Liberty 3.7L is always on. It is not on continously, but cycles on and off as it would if A/C or defroster were on. This happens with all of the heater controls and compressor switch in the off position. The compressor cycling on and off all the time would have to negatively effect MPG. Is this the way the system is supposed to operate? If not, how do I correct the problem. Thanks!

I also have a 2005 Liberty Sport with the 3.7L V6, and my A/C Compressor is doing the same thing. The compressor clutch constantly cycles on and off (roughly 5 seconds On, 5 seconds Off). Does not matter whether I have the controls set to Heat or to Defrost. The A/C switch is OFF.

If I do turn on the A/C, the compressor clutch will engage for longer than 5 seconds, and it does get cold, so it seems to otherwise be in good working order.

I have no idea if this is normal, but it does seems excessive. Does anyone know whether this constant cycling should be happening?

Thanks in advance!
