So I'm thinking of adding a brake booster to my 1972 cj5. I've
asked a few friends and have done some research but I need a few
questions answered from some real CJ experts.
Right now, there is no booster at all on my set up. I have seen
both used and new boosters for early 1980s model CJ7s. I want to make
sure this will work with my CJ5.
On my CJ5, the master cylinder rod is connected to the top of the
brake pedal -- above the pivot. This means, when I apply the brake,
the master cylinder rod pulls toward the firewall. I know that on
Cherokees when the brake is applied the master cyliner rod pushes
toward the front bumper. If I buy a booster for, say, a 1981 CJ7,
will the rod pull or push?
Other than that, I know I need to worry about the length of the rod
(to prevent the brake lights from staying on even when the pedal is
not engaged) and I need to worry about the size of the booster
interfearing with the air filter. Does anyone know of anythign else I
need to watch out for?
If I can't use a booster from an early CJ7, what can I use.
Also, I've heard YJ boosters are much superior to CJs. Again, I
have he same question. Do they push or pull?
