Hey all, I have a 1977 CJ-7 with an AMC 360 V-8 and I'm moving to L.A. in a couple of months. What if anything can I do about passing their Emissions standards out there. Anyone know the ins and outs or have any suggestions? Thanks! MC

Consider yourself blessed. 1977 is the last year that does not have to be smogged. I dont know if they have an initial test, let me check CVC on that.

http://www.lambolounge.com/Building_Notes/Registration/California/Registration-C\ alif.asp read this for an english translation... http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm but I believe 1977 was the last year smog is not required. Remember, if the car has the original smog or equivilant, the smog requirements are based upon the rules on your vehicle where it was bought. In other words, if the car was originally sold in Az, california can only require the federal smog, not california smog. So you need to stock gas tank, evaporative cooler, PVC, stuff like that...noted in the first two. I had to go to BAR beaurau of automotive repair, and my 82 passed with an 89 motor (cannot put an earlier STYLE motor in, but a later is OK). any more questions

I've been thru this many times. 1975 is the magic year. anything 76 and newer has to be smogged on transfer and every two years unless you live in a non smog county. but a smog on transfer is still required. Greg Robison 53 CJ-3B 79 J-10 83 CJ-7 86 Comanche
