I have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited and each day on the way too and from work I hit a point of a soft left turn on the way in and a soft right turn on the way home (Interstate) and I experience the death wobble to the point where I've had to pull off the side of the road.

i had a 1994 grand cherokee limited and had that wobble everytime the jeep got warmed up! they tell me its a ring in the transfer case that needs to be changed to stop that issue! i also changed both axels, bearings, disc rotor, and i still had the wobble so don't spend your money changeing all that..

Its definitely your steering damper. Its the shock-like piece on your front suspension yours is worn out. I just changed mine couple weeks ago my 99GCL was doing the same thing 60+ mph hit a bump and the steering wheel shakes back and forth and stepping on the brakes doesn't help you have to bring the truck to almost a full stop right?
autozone doesn't carry the steering damper shock, advance auto does with a few options to choose and of course ebay and the dealership does though got mine for about $35 very easy fix too.. fyi.... loosen the screws not the nuts as they are permanently welded in place.

Awesome news this honestly scared the crap out of me when it happened. I was thinking I may have to replace a bad shock didnt even think about the damper.

Are there other things that can cause this too? I had the issue last year and replaced a broken sway bar link and that corrected it and I hadn't had any problems up until about 2 weeks ago.

Yea i agree with Q-dre its probably the steering damper,i just bought a 96 Grand Cherokee and on the interstate on the way home i experienced the death wobble...i thought the front wheels were gonna fall off the jeep.Anyway i took it to my mechanic and he said it was the steering damper and that mine was bad...havent gotten it fixed yet but i will soon.

I have a 94GCL and also had to change the damper on mine about 2 weeks ago due to the "DEATH WOBBLE" and i have to say, it fixed the problem of the wobble, so I thought until 3 days ago. I was on my way to work when suddenly, the dreaded wobble returned. Since then, that time was the only time it happened. Any other reasons or suggestions why it might have happened the one time?
