Gas tank issue

I can only get 16 - 16.5 gal into my 92 Cherokee Laredo. The gauge reads 3/4 tank. Has anybody else had anything like this happen? Thanks, DB

Bad sender. It reads 3/4 tank but is really full. You could take the tank down and work on float to try to get it right, but IMO, just drive it. You know how far you go before you gas up. Lester

Well, it holds 18 gallons to getting 16.5 in it is doing pretty good.  Run it any lower than that and you risk burning up the fuel pump IMHO.

The guage being off could be a float rod that is not bent right or a bad connection in the wiring somewhere.  Check the wiring at the tank and clean the connector.

I am not sure what year the changed the setup of the gas tank.  The older rigs you can pull the sending/pump assembly out of the tank without removing it.  The later ones the tank has to be dropped to get it out.
