Recently had my 01 Cherokee Sport inspected at the NJ inspection station. They place a hose on the gas tank cap for testing. Ever since then I keep getting a check engine light. Hooked in the computer checker and this stated that the problem was with the cap and/or sensor??? Seems the State of NJ screwed up my cap. I've erased the code, but it keeps coming back--same problem.
Do I have to change the sensor, where is it located?
Any advice.

Dennis

Change the cap first. It is cheap and easier.

Your problem might be inside the gas tank like the baffle is loose and holding the float up or somehow the float disconnected from the arm in the full position.
