Happy Sunday. I need a little help. I purchased a 1967 Jeep CJ6 (all original). I have been doing some research on this vehicle, but have not been able to find anything substantial to sink my teeth into. Here are my questions: -What type of rear end / front end do I have? I think it's a Spicer 27, but I don't know. -Are there any sites dedicated to the 6? Google doesn't help. -My gear ratio is too high (I would guess 4.88). I have never changed the gear ratio in a vehicle. What is involved? Any help would be swell.

Hi,

I have a 66, It came with 3.73's and a v6. The front should be a 27 and the back a 44.
A good place to look is earlycj5.com.

you didnt mention tire size but a better solve for your problem would be a klune-v unit you can order it with a 2.72 reduction or 4.0 reduction the neet thing is it gives you two low ranges if you want to check it out goto www.klunev.com I sell this unit Ive never seen one broken yet your other option is simply buy gears there not real hard to install if your not up to it any good shop can the above would be far cheaper than axle swaps good luck jeep on p.s. the klune-v gives you 2 low because it mount between the trans&tcase

Unless you're into lots of fabrication and want really wide axles, stay away from the Binder axles. 4.10s would be great with the 33s. The simple solution is to buy ring and pinions and have them installed. Should run about 400 to 600 for parts depending on where you get them, plus the install fee. You'd probably spend more in the long run on a complete setup from another Wrangler if you did a total axle swap.
