I have just bought a 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4.0lt and after taking it for a damm good run for about 1-2 hours the steering started to vibrate like crazy at about 60mph and you couldn't touch one of the front alloy wheels as it was so hot- and it smelt hot! (the other one was quite cool). I've checked the brakes and the bearings which all seem to be fine and there are no cracks in the springs. I greased all the steering points and although it now goes past 60mph, there is still some vibration at 75-80mph. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like a draging caliper to me, geting the brakes hot.
could also be a bad lining in the hose on that side.

It will get the rotor tosty, then it warps.  Since it is dragging you get the warped rotor pulsing all the time.

What ever side is doing it you might as well go through the brakes.  New rotor, loaded caliper, and rubber hose.  Most people like to do brakes in pairs, if you are one of those do that to both sides.

also while you are at it have the tire balance checked.  you can toss a weight.. but still think the brakes sound like a good starting point.
