How screwed am I? Part two

OK, originally thought was blown head gasket Details: blows blue smoke, idles rough, no loss of radiator pressure, no loss of radiator fluid or oil. Mechanic says it could be rings or seals, but will take off valve cover to check in morning... -- tm / Houston / 85 Jeep Cherokee, 2 dr. 2.5L - 5 cyl, 4x4 I don't mind going nowhere as long as it's an interesting path.

It's definitely the rings - what conversion? Is there a temporary fix I can do until I can get it done right? A magic elixir at the auto parts store?
