Was on a toll road pushing the accelerator to the floor and when it hit
65 it started slowing down. It was very windy and I thought that was
doing it. Then I noticed a slight antifreeze smell and saw white smoke
coming out the back but not from the hood where I normally see effects
of blown radiator hose. The jerks on the road kept me from getting off
until I drove about 7 miles and got to a gas station. Opened the hood
and saw the overflow bottle had thrown its lid and was boiling
profusely. Let it cool down, filled the radiator with a lot of water,
thought that was it and I drove a little further to Post Office. More
white smoke and the engine seemed rough. Got mail, went to a nearby
restaurant to let it cool for a about 45 minutes, then drove home with
more of the same rough engine and white smoke. Just installed new high
performance distributor three days earlier and the engine was running
better than it ever had since I've owned it before this event. Did I
blow a head gasket? Worse? What is your opinion?
