Hi, need some help, I'm trying to remove the front right axle shaft so that I can replace the CV joint boot. According to the manual I don't have to remove the hub nut to do this, I can just pull off the hub/bearing assembly with the shaft in place. So last night I stripped off the wheel, caliper, rotor and got the three hub assembly bolts off and... that's as far as I got. The Hub assembly and heat shield aren't going anywhere. Any tips on separating the assembly and shaft from the structure? I tried putting a bolt halfway in, sticking a C clamp on it and pushing the hub off but that didn't work. I can't figure out any way of rigging a puller on it either. And just to check, I don't need to go into the front diff to release the axle shafts do I? I know some rear diffs have c-clips on the shaft ends which need released first. Cheers, Stuart

You can pull it in one piece, I do them that way all the time.

The issue is the hub assemblies rust into the knuckle.  Goto the hardware store and get three more metric bolts about an inch longer than the 12 sided ones you removed.   Then proceed to beat the crap out of them until the hub comes loose.  I have had to work on one for as long as 15 minutes with a three pound hammer.

When you goto put it back clean up both surfaces and put a good coat of anti-seize on.
