Hi, I have a 1981 inline 6 CJ7 and I am looking for either an engine rebuild book or a shop manual that would have the same type of information. I would prefer a book (not the manual) that deals with rebuilding the engine. Can anyone recommend anything? thanks.

Haynes has a repair manual that covers all the major things that you need to know. It is made exclusively for the CJ series jeep.

Get the Jeep Shop Manual. Not the chiltons or the other one. I am talking about the book which is about $75-$100 and is the size of a dictionary. Specific to your year of vehicle. Here is an example for another jeep http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1994-Jeep-Wrangler-Cherokee-Shop-Repair-Manual_W0\ QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34224QQihZ001QQitemZ110034322769QQrdZ1 I have a copy.

Thanks for the replys. This looks promising. I checked out ebay for my specific year and they seem to have one available. Anyone in this group actually used one of these manuals? Are they worth it. They look like they should be, but I could use someones opinion before I put down the 70-some-odd bucks for it.

I actually have a chiltons a Hayes and a shop manual. The shop manual is priceless when you need it. It is worth every penny for the in depth descriptions of what the others leave out. Particularly the pull out wiring diagrams. Which are clear and readable. Think of it this way....the book is the thickness of about 5 or 6 hayes manuals, it doesnt repeat itself, and there is no fluff.
