Hello everyone,
I recently purchaced a 74 cj-5. it came with a 232 still bolted in, but the tranny and transfer case was in the floorboard. the tranny is in a thousand pieces but the transfer case is intact. The tranny and t-case have been in the weather for some time. I have a 77 chevy 2wd with a 350 engine and a th-350 tranny. Would it be cheaper to put the 350 and tranny in the jeep or to have the original parts rebuilt and use them? I know i would have to get the t-case rebuilt, and buy some sort of adapter to make the t-case work anyway.
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi there, I would have to say that it depends on what your ultimate goal of the jeep is. Are you planning on building a trail jeep or just to put around town and occasionally hit some trails? If it were me, if I was willing to part with the 77 chevy, I would swap the 350 v8 and tranny into the cj5. There are plenty of upgrades on the market for a chevy 350. Although there is a few pros and cons to the swap. You also may have to consider upgrading the transfer case depending on what model it is to make sure it can handle the torque from the motor. Also, the stock rear end might be an AMC 20 which won't handle much abuse either. Especially with if you plan to add oversize tires. There definitely are plenty of guys out there that do this swap and have had great success.
