Hey all:  I just put a knew starter in my 83 CJ7 with a 304 and auto tranny. The last starter was way noisy, and the new one even makes some noise. I know there is no built in adjustment, but I thought maybe one of the list members may have figured out a way to make the noise go away. Also does any one no if the 258 flywheel is the same as the 304. they sure look the same from what I can see through the inspection area. Thanks for any info!   83 CJ 7 47 Willys PU 52 Willys PU

Shims, most starters come with shims, or you auto parts store should have them. these allow you to position the starter a little farther away from the flex plate or fly wheel cutting down on noise, try just one first. The ones I have used are very thin (not even a 1/16 of an inch) >
