Hello everyone, Does anyone know of a place that sells rebuilt t4 trannies or CJ axles in PA, NJ, MD or DE? I have a 81 CJ7 that looks good, has a 4" suspension lift, 2.5" body lift, 33s and the engine actually runs good. The problem is my T4 is shot and my axles are 2.73. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know. Thank you

Why regear a D20 two piece axle? I got a D44 out of a 70 something pickup truck, with the 4.27 gears I wanted stock. Cost me $100 from a friend. The only problem with D44s out of mid 70s trucks is it was the late 70s when Dana started keeping BOM in a public database. Another friend welded the spring perches to the right spot, it shouldnt cost more than $100 labor to weld them onto the axle. I didnt even need to grind the old ones off.

Yes, I agree with Daniel, it is your best option for he axles, actually I did it with mine. Got the D44's out of a late 70's Wagoneer with 4.10 gears and 6 lugs, early 70's came with 5 lugs.   As for the trannie, I bought a couple of months ago an overhaul kit, for less than $150, and if you have patience and someone to coach you, you can doit by yourself.   Carlos

I agree, and if you look on jeep l, or post in the wanted section. You can usually find a used tranny for the $100-$150

Daniel, you're welcome to San Pedro Sula and the north part of the country anytime, just giveme a week warning! As for parts, there is not such thing like availability. Sometimes you get lucky and find the things for your Jeep, most of these things I buy via internet, have them sent to Miami to a POBox and a couple of days later they'ra in my front door. That is for old Jeeps, if you think Land Cruisers or even Land Rovers there is almost all you can look for.   Carlos

So you have your friends bring suitcases full of small parts when they come south? :)

Dont waste your money fixing at T-4 or T-5.    They are marginal trannys at best especially when you start making mods to your drivetrain.   Search the internet for alternatives,    there are plenty of better choices out there to swap your T-4 with,   you just need to do the reading and decide for yourself.

Is the T4 and T5 the Puegot 5 speeds that have such a bad repuation.

The T176 is a good choice, as is the T18. You just have to find out which ones match up with your T Case and Bell Housing.

If it came off of a 258 or 4.0 the bell housing will match up to the block. So you just have to make sure you match up to the xfer case. great time to review the quality of the TCase, as you might be able to go with a D300/T176 or D300/T18 configuration.

The Dana 300 tranfercase can be changed to a 4:1 low, greatly improving your gear ratio without affecting highway gearing. Some of the T18's have a granny first gear that does the same thing, but be careful, you might need to buy a conversion kit that is very very expensive. I think it was $800 or more to buy the kit to mate the ford T18 with granny gears to

No, absolutely not. I have a phisical address in Miami, a POBox, where they (at this address) receive my things, not only my things but other's people too; so every other day they complete air cargo and send them here. If I am patient enough, they would deliver at my local address, but I usually go get my stuff at their office.   This for small things, for bigger things, tires rims or so, I have a friend that ships to Honduras 20ft containers every month.

It was a joke, as I have my choice of at least one tire store per square mile. And several 4wd parts stores within 10 miles. A bolt store with every bolt and nut imaginable down the street. And I think I have it tough because most of them are open while I am work so I have to schedule time to get there.

Well, if you are in for heavy/heavy wheeling... South of the border we're short of options, and, on the other hand, my T4 has worked wonders for me, not a single complain in the last 5 years, includin some mild-heavy wheeling specially after I swao axles for D44's on 35s. As a matter of fact I decided to overhaul it because I had the time and the l-6 was being overhauled and upgraded to ? 220HP, not because it actually needed it.
