has anyone ever had the problem of going about 55 mph and the front of your truck seems like it is about to fall off. it is a very hard shake and it is not the balance of the tires it happens when your going over 55mph and you hit any bump in the road. the front end is tight. tie rods have no play. any form of help would be appreciated. thanks

Does it have a steering stabilizer on it? If so, it's bad. If not, get one and problem will go away.

The problem is not caused by the stabilizer though.  A stabilizer can help mask a problem somewhere else though.  If everything is in good shape, it is not needed.

What you are experiencing sounds like what we call "death wobble" in the offroading world.  A shake that once it starts can only be stopped by slowing down or stopping the vehicle.

Most common causes are worn tie rod ends, track bar, ball joints, and steering box on an XJ.  I would start with checking all the TREs and track bar by having somebody else wiggle the wheel from side to side alittle while you watch from under the front.  This can be done with the engine off, all you are doing is looking for slack in the joints.

check that the front shocks are tight, the nuts under the hood over the wheel wells. also check that your tires are good, i had the same problem and it was loose front shocks and bad tires. i rotated the tires and tighted the nuts on the shocks.
