I'm at work, just been outside to get something out my car and I noticed a puddle underneath it. I opened it up and had a look in the engine compartment. It's a 4.0L 6-cyl 1996 engine. The Jeep had a new radiator recently, thought something might have come loose but when I looked inside it isn't coming from the radiator. I can't see exactly but it seems to be coming from the front of the engine. All I can see if water dripping on to one of the pulley wheels (the one driving the fan) so it is obviously something just above that. I'm hoping it's a seal on the waterpump but I can't recall from memory exactly where the pump is. Am I in the right area? It looks to be coming from almost dead centre in the front of the engine, it's dripping straight down so I'm guessing it's not coming from the engine body. It'll have to wait until later tonight when I can get home and get some tools on it to know for sure but I'm hoping it's nothing serious. Regards, Stuart

could be a leaky hose, thermostat gasket, or a bad waterpump.  Those would be my 3 guesses.

I have the same problem, please let me know if you find an answer.   I replaced the seal and I still have the problem.   Good Luck! Jamey

Buy, rent or borrow a pressure washer. Stand in front of the truck and aim for the back of the cowl where the hood transitions from horizontal to vertical. Blast that entire area for a couple of minutes with a helper inside. Look for moisture (I don't expect any but it's best to be thurough). Next move up to the windshield seal. After the wiperarm pivots, then the lower half of the glass, the middle sides of the glass, top of the glass, and finally the hardtop or soft top seal. If nothing after all that repeat the procedure with the doors, starting low and going up. This should locate the problem area. I personally suspect it's the roof seal. WARNING: Driving in a hard rain at 50MPH will only generate water pressures of about 150psi. The average pressure washer will generate 1500psi and up at the nozzle. Maintain a safe distance between the truck and the gun, and never let it stay in one spot for more than a few seconds or it WILL remove paint and puncture rubber seals. I hope this helps. Ed.

If it's a 2000, it SHOULD be covered under the warranty. MY two cents would be to get it back to the dealership and demand that they make it right. They're going to tell you the first few times that they couldn't find anything, but keep on them and eventually they will actually take a look at it and / or remount the windshield for you. Once in a while you might just have to make some noise to get things done.

Well I hate to tell you, but it can`t be fixed. `97 sport had it. Sat in shop for 3 months. They changed evry single gasket. Still leaked. Traded it for `99 sahara. Same f`n thing. They removed evaporator and sprayed undercoat there, twice. Still leaks. I gave up, took out carpet and threw in trash. All you can do is bitch, then get lawyer. I went through arbitration, and they said that they were confident Chrysler could fix it. Wrong answer. I told Chrysler not to spend all the money in one spot cause they got the last buck they`ll ever get from me. And anyone else if I can help it. By the way, I lost 10g on the trade in. Cousin has an `00 Sahara, no leak. I`m just one unlucky SOB.

Let`s see, had your spider gears grenade in the rear end(dana35). Did the slave cylinder for clutch go out? Rear brake cylinders come apart? Fan switch not operable on 3rd setting?

Many years ago, when I bought my CJ-7 I asked why the carpets and drainplugs were gone. The seller replied, "It leaks a little." After 15 years it still leaks, but I still have the floorboards. Pull your carpets and put some "throwrugs" in it. All Jeeps leak, unfortunatly. Including my FS Cherokee. Jeep is a four-letter word- so is Rust and Leak. Consider it "Character", Something a Ford Explorer will never have.
