Hi Folks, what's the axle in a stock 96 XJ? Is it a D30? I need a front axle for a ZJ, a guy on e-bay has an XJ axle in stock but they can't say what it is and it's too far to go to take a look. If it's the same axle as in my ZJ then it's a lot cheaper than rebuilding my front diff. Regards, Stuart

I assume you mean the front axle.

The XJ always used a high pinion D30 until 99 when it whent to the same axle used in a ZJ.  You ZJ alxe will be the same as far as bracketry but it has the cheaper low pinion version.

I am not sure if the higher pinion causes any problems on a non lifted rig or not.  On an XJ the exhuast has to be clearanced some from the factory.  Also at stock height your front driveshaft will run uphill from the tcase to the axle (an XJ has the drivetrain tucked up higher underneath than a ZJ does).
